A seasoned and award-winning journalist of more than 15 years, working as a senior writer and interim editor for the Diocese of La Crosse's former diocesan newspaper. He is on staff writing for “Sheep and Goats,” the religious section of the San Diego Reader and serves as the Reader’s poetry editor. He has also written for the Knights of Columbus monthly magazine, Columbia and the Catholic weekly Our Sunday Visitor, and serves as managing editor of the Catholic liturgy journal, Adoremus Bulletin. O'Brien brings fresh style, easy engagement and excellent research to his work. But there's more. O'Brien is also an award-winning poet and soon-to-be published author. His first book, commissioned at the request of Bishop William P. Callahan on the history of the Diocese of La Crosse, Canoe, Crosier, and Cross: A History of the Diocese of La Crosse, will soon be at the publishers. Blessed with a calm, clear-thinking Catholic mind, O'Brien is ever ready to engage in good conversation, good humor and a good martini! (or so we hear). After attending Thomas Aquinas College for three years and receiving a bachelor’s and master’s in English from the University of Dallas, he settled in the Driftless area of southwest Wisconsin, where he and his wife Cecilia raise their nine children.
