Effective September 1, 2020, the State of California has new eviction protections arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. This new law includes new state rules regarding:
- Protection for tenants who cannot pay rent, including temporary relief through January 31, 2021
- Nonpayment hardship declarations
- Deferred not eliminated: Tenants will still owe the rent
- Expanded Just Cause Eviction Protection for Single-Family Homes
- Enhanced Penalties for Landlord Retaliation
